Description |
United States of America
Washington, DC
A collection of former British, French, and Spanish colonies, the United States is a Constitution based federal republic with strong democratic traditions. It is comprised of 50 states, a single federal district, and several dependencies. The United States is governed by three equal branches of government: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. The President of the United States is both the Sovereign Head of State and Chief of Government, elected by an electoral college for four-year terms serving not more than two terms.
As a federation form of government, individual states & dependencies are afforded a great deal of autonomy over domestic affairs & relevant foreign affairs. Each state or territory is administered by a popularly elected governor and legislature. States are further divided into smaller regions called counties within which cities, towns and villages are incorporated.
Nation Flag Description:
The blue canton symbolizes the union. The 50 stars stand for the 50 states. The 13 stripes represent the 13 colonies which formed the independent nation.
The Blue symbolizes loyalty, devotion, friendship, justice and truth; the red stands for courage, zeal and fervency; and the white represents purity and rectitude of conduct.
