Me on November 11th: While I will enjoy watching the infighting, they would have to be crazy not to fall in line. Oh, wait... Well, this means nobody called it in the user poll vote.... I am deeply embarrassed to have given the Republican Party enough credit to think they would elect a speaker by the 5th vote. Never again will I assume without evidence that the Republican Party will ever act rationally.

If it gets to be this much of a pain in the a** to get the job, I'm not sure I'd want it at all. This circus portends nonstop BS shenanigans for at least the next two years, and I maintain that leading the House Republican Conference (and leading said Republican-controlled House as Speaker) is one of the worst jobs in America. That McCarthy wants it so desperately has me questioning the man's sanity, to be honest.

Congress doesn't have to certify votes though

The counting of the electoral votes? The Senate does that. If the choice of president were thrown to the House state delegations for some reason, the GOP (which leads in those state delegations) would have extreme motivation to set aside their dysfunction and choose a Speaker.

Honestly, who cares the less crappy legislation they pass the better in fact lets just keep doing this until January 3, 2025 The debt ceiling vote to avoid destroying the US credit and plunging the world into a massive depression might be important.
