The Harrow East seat, in north-west London, is ethnically and economically diverse and easily accessible by road and rail.Big employers in the area include Kodak, which has been in the borough for more than a century, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Ladbrokes, which has its headquarters in the town.
More than 28% of residents here practise the Hindu religion, the third highest, according to ONS 2011 Census data for England and Wales.
This seat has been mostly Conservative since the Second World War, but Labour did win here in landslide victories in both 1945 and 1966. They won here again in 1997, and held on in the two subsequent general elections. However, the Conservatives regained control in 2010, with Bob Blackman winning 44.7% of the vote, Labour on 37.6%, Liberal Democrats14.3% and UKIP 1.9%.
