Left-wing Catalan-nationalist party which emerged upon the union of disaffected members from the defunct Catalan Environmental Movement (Moviment Ecologista Català) and the Alternativa Verda (Green Alternative Movement of Catalonia). Party has little to do with environmentalism today, moving instead to Marxist politics and a determined desire for Catalan independence. Party has been unable to pick up a seat in any legislature since 1999. Party is led by writer and environmental consultant Santiago Vilanova i Tané, who is also head of the list of The Greens–Green Alternative in the municipal elections of Barcelona in 2023 [Els Verds–Alternativa Verda (EV-AV)].
