Description |
Congress established U.S. circuit courts of appeals for each of the nine judicial circuits
and assigned the two sitting judges of the U.S. Circuit Courts for the Second Circuit to
sit also on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, effective June 16, 1891.
The act also authorized an additional judgeship for the Second Circuit's new court.
The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit is a federal court with appellate
jurisdiction over the district courts for the following districts:
* District of Connecticut
* District of Vermont
* Northern, Western, Southern, and Eastern Districts of New York
10 Seats (1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13) have traditionally been reserved for New York.
2 Seats (2 and 3) for Connecticut.
1 Seat (5) for Vermont.
