DescriptionBBC Profile:
Labour's Jane Kennedy won with a 19,701 majority in 1997 and has represented the seat since. Standing down at this election, she won by a majority of 5,173 in 2005, after an 11.8% swing to the Liberal Democrats.
At the election, the seat gains two part-wards from Garston and Halewood, and a part-ward each from Liverpool Riverside and Liverpool West Derby. It loses one part-ward to Garston and Halewood and Liverpool Walton, two part-wards to Liverpool Riverside and four part-wards to Liverpool West Derby. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Situated to the east of the city of Liverpool, the constituency of Wavertree is predominantly residential.

Wavertree hosts a large technology park which has close ties to the university and there is a large student population based here which helps the local economy.
