Ciolacu et Cie must be humiliated and aghast by the scene above. Will the ruling class spur yet another manu militari intervention into the democratic process to save its face?

Crin Antonescu - the establishment's last great hope and white horse, now a meat-monkey ready for the knacker.

In an eerie echo of Lasconi's last-second shove-off of Marcel Ciolacu late last year, Dan jostles Antonescu for second place!

Dan's large portion of the Romanian diaspora vote [Link] , calculated at the very tail-end, may be just enough to squeeze him into second place.

Simion a full seven points more than the poll averages predicted. Nicușor Dan coming on strong to place down the homestretch.

Exit polls just out [Link]

Here's one from Avantgarde:
George Simion - 33.1%
Crin Antonescu - 22.9%
Nicusor Dan - 20.9%
Victor Ponta - 14.7%
Elena Lasconi - 4.4%
Other candidate - 4%

Take Romanian exit polls (and all other Romanian polls) with two aspirin and a grain of salt.

Wow. Reform took 677 of the 1641 councillor seats, almost all at the expense of the Tories [Link] Astounding. That's by any measure a gone-bonkers, monster-raving-loony success for a young, one-theme party. 2029 looks supremely ominous for Labour.

Still Rotes Wien, but by quite a shade less. Big story: the FPÖ triples in size to take 2nd, shoving the ÖVP to a mortifying 5th place [Link]

Noboa vincit. A convincing double-digit win. ECU polls were (yet again) wildly off. González demands a recount [Link]

Opinion polls and surveys in Bolivia are the proverbial few and far between, but we can discern from what's been released so far that economic disintegration and non-stop conflict with former mentor and outcast Evo Morales has brought President Luis Arce to his knees.

The first shock to his system came from the Latinobarómetro survey released at the tail end of 2024, which showed Arce's support level nosedive from 46% to a ghastly 9%, just 4 points above no-hoper Dina Boluarte [Link] A Gallup Poll released in February 11, 2025 gave him a point better - 10% support [Link] But hold on to your hat - a FES Delphi survey released on February 18 gave Arce an approval level of 7.42% [Link] and the highly-anticipated Marcelo Claure survey, considered the 'gold standard' of Bolivia's polls, gave him a galactically explosive 2% support [Link] a figure buttressed by two of the latest forecasters [Poder y Placer 2/11/25 [Link] and UAGRM 2/14/25 [Link]

Could Arce see a bit of a lift as we get closer to a finalized list of candidates? Perhaps the Uno Decide survey due to be released on Thursday will slough off a bit of that Indian sign on his back [Link]

The Democrats were the clear winners tonight, and with Naleraq will have majority in parliament and a governing coalition. Yesterday's men, the ruling Inuit Ataqatigiit and Siumut, saw their support cut in half - from a combined 66.1% of the vote obtained in 2021 to 36.1% in 2025.

The Democrats' Jens Frederik Nielsen crushes it and earns the prime-ministership [Link] obtaining "the highest number of personal votes that a candidate has received in this election" - 4850 votes with 97% in (that's a lot in Greenland).

Overraskelse! The center-right pro-independence opposition (the Democrats and confrère Naleraq) score big [Link] displacing the ruling parties.

Bearer of not-so-glad tidings to the title-bearers in this last major SDP/Greens stronghold. First forecast just out from the ZDF sees the SDP losing seats, from its current 53 to 45, while the CDU rises to 26 from 16, jumping to 2nd place and knocking off the Greens (which falls from 32 seats to 26) [Link]

A husband and wife co-dictatorship cemented effective February the 18th in Nicaragua's Constitution [Link] . The Ortegas now live the dream of couples who'd rather "(co-) reign in Hell than serve in Heaven." Share the spoils, jail all opponents, and break some heads together. True love. So heartwarming.

What's even more remarkable Brent is that the AfD won all six constituencies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania [Link] This state was overwhelmingly dominated by the SPD after elections held in 2021 [Link]

Forecasts and projections lead German talking heads to declare the looming results of this national election to be the SPD's "worst performance in its history" [Link] . Though a deflated Scholz proclaims it a "historic defeat" and leader-in-waiting Boris Pistorius calls it a "devastating, catastrophic result" [Link] the SPD should take some small satisfaction in not winding up sitting seat-wise behind the Greens, as many (including the Greens) expected.

Trouble ahead. Kurti's Vetëvendosje failed to reach 61 seats and majority this time around. Kurti is now forced to hunt for a partner or two - a close to impossible feat since the ensuing big four that won seats, the PDK, LDK, Serb List and AAK-NISMA, hate his guts. The non-partisan, non-Serb minorities promise to "get-along go-along" with whichever bloc succeeds in reaching majority [Link] which is not very helpful. This government formation process will take months.

A shockingly thunderous victory for the BJP, which had been scratching and whimpering at the back door for a chance play with Delhi's big dogs since 1993! Now, from out of nowhere, they're Delhi's top dog, and probably more benumbed by the result (a double-digit spread between them and the AAAP?!) than the rest of us.

I share the same jolt, IndyG. So much time and anguish expended to form a government - all to comfort a superfluity of linguistic, ethnic, political and special interests. Can't believe this crazy quilt called Belgium has lasted this long!
