Hey, there! I'm an actual Sawant constituent, and as is clear above, am backing the "Retain" option here. So yes, by and large her constituents do support her; it's just the rich white folk who have a problem with her

I don't care for recalls and if I lived a few blocks north or east I'd probably sit this one out and wait to see who challenged her next year. But I love when ideologues ignore the bad behavior of folk they support.

"She held a protest!" She misued taxpayer money, an act I'm sure some left-leaning ideologues would call corrupt if anyone else did it. She led protestors to the house of a former federal attorney whose address is protected under confidentiality laws. Those laws aren't to protect a mayor from public ridicule, that's fair, but because of her work as a prosecutor. Ya may not like cops and prosecutors, but those types laws protect actual people and their families. Opening city hall to protestors in contravention of COVID restrictions, well meh honestly, but if any other 3rd term, entrenched incumbent with all the advantages of being an established member of the city's political elite had used taxpayer funds against the "Tax Amazon" movement or led protestors who later left homophobic, racist, or sexist messages outside the homes of the politicians you support, left-leaning ideologues would be blowing their tops. But Sawant uses the right hashtags on twitter and thus can do no wrong.

From my limited view, her constituents seem to be pretty divided on her. Cap Hill may be a nice lil bastion of progressivism, but there are folk outside that bubble (but within her district) who are mixed on her. By and large, this'll be within 5 points and so will the '22 race.

Feeling very nervous. Kshama should have a chance if she has no fewer than 42% of the vote. That was her vote share on 2019 election night, which she ended up covering.

the King County election result is pretty nice, so that's good news to the people who'll be spending their time looking at results until this is final

In total, 1.98 million.

Just recall or is this counting the previous election efforts against her.

Those numbers are just the 2021 recall.

So in total: $3,480,000 was spent to get rid of ONE City Council Woman

Is that $1.98 the total campaign or just what was spent against her?

I've seen numbers of about $950K for Sawant's campaign and roughly $960K against her in this race.

Recalls in general just aren't really good for governance or democracy

While I agree in general, especially when it's just "I don't like it that my candidate lost.", I think they did make a case here with the charges.

On paper they are cool, but at the end of the day who's got the time and money to organize recalls: U or Rich People lol

If the recall wins, the person being appointed by the City Council is a bit of a complete unknown, but it's probably not going to be Dave Reichert.

Also, guess we'll see if the map changes any once it becomes official but that is a very polarized map in regards to what won where

Either way she wins. While she may lose her seat: it will be known that million(s) were spent to oust 1 city coincilwoman

RBH: that is a very polarized map in regards to what won where

As a previous resident of this district, I can confirm it's about what I expected.

if anybody is curious as to how to spend thousands of dollars in a race like this, here's some of the larger expenditures from "Recall Sawant" in a period where they spent $106k over 2 weeks

$11k to the USPS for postage
$36k to Strategies 360 for Direct Mail Printing
$21k to a law firm for legal consulting

A certain amount of the spending essentially involves paying friendly groups, which seems smarter if you win the election.

Congrats to the entities that made some money off of this whole thing though.

The number of curable ballots is ~380. With a margin of 317 as of tonight, I'm going to call this race.
