Description

BBC Constituency Profile:

Situated in north west London is the seat of Ealing North. The constituency covers Northolt, Greenford and Perivale - and is dissected by the A40 Western Avenue route into London. This is a seat of broad ethnic diversity with established Asian, Irish, Polish, Arab and Afro-Caribbean communities.

Heathrow Airport provides much of the employment here, with transport and storage claiming 8.5% of jobs - the 17th highest proportion of all constituencies in England and Wales, according to ONS 2011 Census data. One in 10 of the population works in construction, while others work in professional, scientific, technical and communications' fields. Alex Reed Academy, one of the first academies in England, is based here.

A semi-marginal seat, Ealing North was Conservative from 1979 until 1997, when Stephen Pound won for Labour. In 2010, he held the seat with 50.4% of the votes; Conservatives got 30.9%, Liberal Democrats 13.2% and BNP 2.2%.
