Description BBC Profile:
Shadow cabinet member and former Chancellor Ken Clarke has represented the seat since 1970. In 2005 his majority rose by more than 5,000 votes to 12,974.

At the election, boundary changes see parts of Bingham (a town with a slightly stronger traditional manufacturing base than most of the rest of the area) transferred to the Newark constituency. The Rushcliffe constituency gains no wards but loses several to Newark. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

An affluent, leafy seat in the suburbs of south and east Nottingham, Rushcliffe consists mostly of the town of West Bridgford, along with smaller villages such as Radcliffe-on-Trent and East Leake.

West Bridgford apart, where the bulk of Rushcliffes population is based, this seat is predominantly rural. Much of the electorate commute into the city of Nottingham to work.

Major employers in the area include Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham Forest Football Club and the Trent Bridge test cricket ground, all of which are based in the constituency.
