Description BBC Profile:
Bromsgrove has been a Conservative seat for most of its existence, with the party's majority as high as 17,000 votes in the 1980s. In 1997, Julie Kirkbride took over from the sitting MP Roy Thomason.

In 2005 Kirkbride successfully defended her seat and her majority increased to just over 21%.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

Situated in the northeast corner of Worcestershire and to the southwest of Birmingham, this seat is made up of the town of Bromsgrove, satellite villages, and Birmingham dormitory suburbs.

The seat stretches through north Worcestershire to the villages of Barnt Green and Alvechurch and the suheburbs of Cofton Hackett, Wythall and Hagley.

The seat does have areas that are less well-off than the majority of the constituency.

The services sector accounts for the majority of employment and there is a higher than average proportion of skilled non-manual workers.

Outside the urban areas farming plays a role in the economy and most of the seat is still classified as green belt.

Notable companies in the constituency include Britannic Assurance, GKN, and Bayer UK Ltd. The proportions of people in managerial and professional occupations are above both the West Midlands and national averages.
