The first exposition in a German-speaking country. Germany itself would not host an exposition until 2000. The Danube had even been redirected for almost half a mile to help create the site
The Weltausstellung 1873 Wien was the large World exposition which was held in 1873 in the Austrian-Hungarian capital of Vienna.
A lot of special buildings were erected for this exposition. The most famous were:
the Rotunde, a large circular building in the great park of Prater, and
the Riesenrad (giant wheel or Ferris wheel), an early predecessor of the London Eye, with a height of 65 meters.
