| Description | Left-wing nationalist opposition party begun as an Azerbaijan State University club called the "Club of Friends of Willy Brandt" founded by MP Araz Alizadeh. Party emerged out of obscurity when Ayaz Mutallibov, the 1st president of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1990–1992), and the last member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, took over as co-chairman of the party on August 27, 2003. A sudden surfeit of politically motivated criminal charges against Mutallibov forced his resignation on June 30, 2012. The party was further weakened by founder Alizadeh's death on October 6, 2022. The party, along with 27 others in 2023, was forced to shut down on April 4, 2023 after a new law came into effect on January 11, 2023 mandating that parties provide the names of at least 5,000 registered members by a deadline [Azərbaycan Sosial Demokrat Partiyası (ASDP)]. |
