Description | Left-wing, Turkish-Dutch and Moslem minority-interests party formed by MPs Tunahan Kuzu and Selçuk Öztürk after they were expelled from the PvdA parliamentary group Kuzu/Öztürk in November 2014. Party managed to pick up three seats in the 150-seat Dutch House of Representatives after elections held on March 15, 2017 but quickly fell in disrepute after refusing to call the Turkish massacre of an estimated 1 million Armenians between 1915–1917 a genocide and incessantly allying itself with Turkey's more controversial positions (party is often accused of being a mouthpiece for Ankara, or called "the long arm of Erdoğan"). Internal troubles then began after ex members, including a former Miss Netherlands, charged the party with being antigay and holding views against female emancipation, coupled with battles between the two founders, which forced Kuzu to depart in March 21, 2020 and Öztürk on June 6, 2020. Ejder Köse became the new party chairman on November 29, 2020 and MP Farid Azarkan took over as party leader on September 26, 2020. On July 24, 2023, Azarkan announced that he would be resigning and would not be the party list leader for the November 22, 2023 parliamentary elections. Azarkan was replaced by Stephan van Baarle on August 2, 2023 (Dutch for "think" and Turkish for "equal"). |
