The Netherlands, also referred to as Holland, is a Western European nation bordering the North Sea, between Belgium and Germany. With its capital in Amsterdam, the seat of government is in The Hague. There are twelve provinces: Drenthe, Flevoland, Friesland, Gelderland, Groningen, Limburg, Noord-Brabant, Noord-Holland, Overijssel, Utrecht, Zeeland, Zuid-Holland.
As a constitutional monarchy, the Head of State is from the Dutch Royal House. The Monarch and the Heir Apparent also serve in political capacity as members of the Council of State. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister, appointed by the Monarch from the majority party of Parliament. Parliament, or the bicameral States General, is comprised of the Eerste Kamer (literally First Chamber) and the Tweede Kamer (literally Second Chamber).
