DescriptionThe Democratic Republican Party became an organized national entity in 1800 when the anti-Federalist members of Congress assembled to nominate a national ticket for the presidential election of 1800. This was the first party to have different names in different states. The party effectively came to an end during the administration of Pres. John Quincy Adams, when the old Federalist vs. DR rivalry was supplanted by a Jackson vs. Adams rivalry.
