Description | Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza, in a lengthy report into the 22-day conflict at the start of this year.
Amnesty says Israeli forces killed hundreds of unarmed Palestinian civilians, including 300 children, and destroyed thousands of homes in Gaza, in attacks which breached the laws of war.
It says most were killed with high-precision weapons and the use of drones, where the attacker could see its targets in detail.
It says others were killed with imprecise weapons including artillery shells carrying white phosphorus.
The group has also attacked Israel for trying to avoid scrutiny by failing to properly investigate the conduct of its troops.
But the organisation also accuses the militant Palestinian group Hamas of war crimes by firing hundreds of rockets into southern Israel, killing several Israeli civilians.
Israel has defended its bombardment as a means of stopping such attacks on its population. |
