DescriptionLondon Mayor Ken Livingstone has been cleared by the Electoral Commission of breaking the law on donations.

But he has been advised to alter the wording he uses online to avoid confusion about where the money goes.

Tory MP Greg Hands alleged donations to Mr Livingstone's election campaign were being passed to the wider Labour Party, avoiding the need to declare them.

The commission said the mayor had not broken the law but advised him to state that the money was going to his party.

"Having met the Labour Party and Ken Livingstone's election agent, we are satisfied that there is currently no evidence of a breach," a spokesman for the watchdog said.

"We advised the party to change its fundraising terminology to reflect money raised would be used by the party to fund its London election campaign and avoid any misunderstanding.

"They have agreed to do this."

Mr Hands, the MP for Hammersmith and Fulham in west London, had demanded greater transparency and the release of a full list of donations to Mr Livingstone.
