Description | Opposition members accused Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Thursday of trying to exclude his government from the mandate of the inquiry into alleged dealings between Brian Mulroney and German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.
On Wednesday, Harper named University of Waterloo president David Johnston as the impartial third party who will define the parameters for the inquiry into corruption allegations levelled against Mulroney by Schreiber.
The Liberals and NDP, as well as the former Progressive Conservative prime minister himself, had called for a full public inquiry.
Meanwhile Thursday, Schreiber learned that the Ontario Court of Appeals rejected his latest attempt to avoid extradition to Germany, where he is wanted on charges of tax evasion, bribery and fraud. |
