Description | Thurston County prosecutors are considering whether to charge a disbarred lawyer with election fraud.
This case has all kinds of problems that warrant outside expertise.
The issue of voter fraud is in the news because of last fall's gubernatorial election, when Gov. Christine Gregoire beat Republican Dino Rossi by 129 votes. Republicans claim that more than 1,000 felons voted illegally in that election. They say the election should be nullified.
Felons lose their voting rights upon conviction and must go through a legal process to have those rights restored.
The Building Industry Association of Washington handed Thurston County Sheriff Gary Edwards the names of dozens of felons suspected of voting last fall.
And therein lies the first problem. |
