Description | San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy declared victory yesterday – 17 days after the Nov. 2 election – shrugging off a legal challenge that still could tip the race in favor of Councilwoman Donna Frye's write-in campaign.
The declaration came an hour after the county Registrar of Voters Office completed a vote count that showed Murphy ahead of Frye by 2,205 votes.
"Even if the courts got it wrong and ruled the other way, we won the mayoral election," Murphy said at his campaign headquarters as more than 100 jubilant supporters hoisted signs and popped champagne corks |
