| Description |
This seat comprises the whole of the old Glasgow Ballieston constituency with the addition of four wards from Glasgow Shettleston. It is a largely residential seat covering the sprawling Easterhouse area, one of the vast peripheral housing estates established in the 1950s and 1960s, which did much to saddle the city with its image of deprivation and poverty, but which is now the focus for efforts at regeneration and renovation. The constituency also stretches along the M8 motorway towards the city centre and contains a high proportion of social rented housing with small pockets of attractive Victorian villas. In common with some other parts of the city, and with the encouragement of the city council, the area has seen a recent rise in private housing development. The constituency is home to Glasgow Celtic Football Club and its stadium at Parkhead, and to two new large shopping precincts - the Fort and the Forge ' names which echo the area's heavy industrial past.
