Description |
Innisfail-Sylvan Lake is surrounded by Red Deer on three sides and bordered on the east and north by the Red Deer River. The boundaries of this riding are similar to what they were before the 2004 redistribution, though the areas immediately north and east of Red Deer are now part of Red Deer-North. Communities include Bowden, Innisfail, Penhold and Sylvan Lake.
Farming, retail, and oil and gas are the major industries in this riding, contributing to average household incomes of $60,448, just under the provincial norm. Fewer than eight per cent of residents are low income. This riding has the highest rate of people who speak English at home at 97 per cent. Just over five per cent of residents are immigrants, fewer than three per cent are aboriginal, and more than two-thirds are Alberta-born.
