Description |
This west-central Edmonton riding straddles the North Saskatchewan River. The river and Stony Plain Road form much of the northern border, and the riding is bordered in the east by 109th, 111th and 112th Streets, in the south by Whitemud Drive, and in the west mostly by Blackmud Creek and 158th, 159th and 163rd Streets. In the 2004 redistribution the riding gained small areas from Edmonton-Meadowlark and Edmonton-Whitemud.
The main employer here is education, followed by professional work, health care and social services. The average household income, at $68,936, is above the provincial average, though one in six residents is still considered low income. More than 16 per cent of residents are older than 65, the third-highest in the province. Almost 19 per cent are immigrants, while 55 per cent were Alberta-born.
