Description |
This Greater Toronto Area riding contains part of Mississauga.
Its boundaries are Ninth Line to the west, Mavis Road to the east, Dundas Street, the Credit River and Queensway East to the south and Britannia Road West, Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue West to the north.
The area is primarily residential, with manufacturing the major industry. According to the 2001 census, more than 44 per cent of the residents are immigrants, with significant East Indian and Chinese communities. Average family income is $89,129 and unemployment is 5.2 per cent.
This riding was created in 2004 from 45 per cent of Mississauga West and 43 per cent of Mississauga Centre. Mississauga West was created in 1986 by combining parts of Mississauga North and South. Prior to 1966 the riding was known as Peel.
