InfoPaul W. Hodes was elected to the United States House of Representatives on November 7, 2006, winning with an 8-point margin. Paul and his wife, Peggo Horstmann Hodes, live in Concord, New Hampshire, where they raised their children.

Paul Hodes began working for the people of New Hampshire in 1978, when future Supreme Court Justice David Souter asked him to join the staff of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office. Paul served as an Assistant Attorney General from 1979 until 1982, when he was chosen to become a Special Prosecutor for the state. He distinguished himself as the first New Hampshire attorney to win a criminal conviction against an environmental polluter. Paul also won convictions in a variety of notable cases, including the notoriously complex case of State v. Stewart-Meyers, concluding in 1983.

Paul entered private practice in 1983, co-founded the firm of Roussos, Hage, and Hodes in 1985, and joined the firm of Shaheen and Gordon in 1996, where he remained until launching his successful 2006 congressional campaign.

As Chairman of the Board of the Capitol Center for the Arts from 1990-1996, Paul led the Concord community’s effort to create a premier performing arts space in downtown Concord. Today, the Capitol Center for the Arts is a thriving venue for performers from around the world, and it serves as a model for urban revitalization and grassroots initiatives in cities across the country. Paul still serves as a board member.

Paul also served as the first Chairman of the Board of FamilyStrength, a nonprofit that provided counseling and support for families across New Hampshire. Paul has also served on the boards of the arts organization Tricinium, Ltd., the Concord Community Music School, and the New Hampshire Children’s alliance.

As musicians and parents of young children, Paul and Peggo Hodes grew frustrated with the quality of family-oriented music. They formed the duo Peggosus, and won hearts—and accolades—across New England for the pioneering rock-and-roll for children. Paul and Peggo have released six albums of various styles, earning several Parents’ Choice Awards. The duo were invited to perform at the White House in 1996. Combining his love of music with his love of politics, Paul wrote the book and lyrics for the political musical “The People’s House,” which premiered in 2001. Paul is a now a member of the people’s house, and he stills plays music with Peggo. Paul is a member of the American Federation of Musicians and ASCAP.

Paul is a 1972 graduate of Dartmouth College (A.B., cum laude), and earned his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1978. Peggo and Paul have two children, Max and Ariana, who both share their parents’ love of music and community.
