Info | A former public school teacher, health care professional, and co-chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue has been a key figure in shaping our state's successful agenda for educational excellence; affordable, accessible healthcare; and sustainable economic prosperity for North Carolina's families.
Lieutenant Governor Perdue comes into the second highest elected office in our state having served five terms in the Senate and two terms in the state House of Representatives. During this time, she was consistently ranked one of the most effective members of the North Carolina General Assembly and gained a reputation for being one of the legislature's hardest workers.
Her successes include shepherding through the General Assembly such innovative education measures as the Excellent Schools Act and Governor Hunt's Smart Start initiative for early childhood development. She has also worked tirelessly to improve the quality of long-term care for older adults and remains focused on expanding home health care opportunities. Furthermore, having crafted our state's balanced budget from 1996-2000, she has earned her designation as a fiscally responsible fighter for the needs of our people.
As Lieutenant Governor, Bev Perdue continues working hard on the issues that matter to North Carolina's families: prescription drug cost relief for seniors, more effective schools in every community, clean air and water, access to technology, a government that treats businesses and citizens as valued customers, and ensuring that our law enforcement officers have the tools necessary to fight crime while making sure that our communities and schools remain safe.
Perdue is Chair of the Health and Wellness Trust Fund Commission, which is committed to working on a prescription drug plan, teen smoking prevention and cessation, and research, education and prevention programs. She also serves on the State Board of Education, the State Board of Community Colleges and the Information Resource Management Commission - North Carolina's leading technology agency.
Bev Perdue has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors bestowed upon by many of the leading health care and educational organizations throughout North Carolina. Lieutenant Governor Perdue holds a Ph.D. in administration and she is putting her years of dedicated public service to work fighting for an improved quality of life for all North Carolinian's in this great 21st century.
