Born in Switzerland to Swiss and Cuban parents, Raphael Rosch grew up in Costa Rica, where he studied at both American and British-style educational institutions. He came to Canada to pursue his post-secondary education, and graduated with honors from York University with a B.Sc. in Computer Science a program that allowed him to refine his analytical and problem-solving skills.
It was at York that he met his beautiful future wife and best friend, to whom he has been married for 5 years. Being married to the daughter of Chinese immigrants from Peru has provided him an intimately different perspective on matters of multiculturalism in Ontario and how different cultures adapt to different ways to life in Canada.
After graduation and an internship at IBM, Mr. Rosch served as pastor of a small, mainly immigrant church at Jane and Finch. There he gained a deeper understanding of the personal needs and issues that affect families, especially low income immigrant families, and how different these needs can be from one family to another. As a pastor, he hosted and took part in inter-faith forums and discussions which broadened his understanding on the matters that are most important to members of different faith communities.
Mr. Rosch is passionate about defending the most vulnerable members of our society, and he knows that reducing wasteful spending in the health care system, along with providing proper health care information to patients, will result in a more efficient system without the burden of incessantly increasing taxes. This would in turn result in a greater capacity to adequately care for those with more serious medical needs, especially for those who suffer from limited financial ability to cover such expenses for themselves.
Being so immersed in such varied life contexts has given Mr. Rosch a keen perspective of how different people of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds have quite distinctly different needs, priorities and demands from their government. The importance of protecting the family unit is evident, whether it be a single mother of one or a large family of 3 generations: strong families lead to a strong Ontario.
