Info | DEARBORN, Henry Alexander Scammell, (son of Henry Dearborn), a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Exeter, N.H., March 3, 1783; attended the common schools and Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., for two years; was graduated from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., in 1803; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced in Salem, Mass., and Portland, Mass. (now Maine); collector of customs in Boston 1812-1829; served as brigadier general commanding the Volunteers in the defenses of Boston Harbor in the War of 1812; member of the State constitutional convention in 1820; member of the State house of representatives in 1829; served in the State senate in 1830; elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1832 to the Twenty-third Congress; served as adjutant general of Massachusetts 1834-1843; mayor of Roxbury 1847-1851; president of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society; author of many books; died in Portland, Maine, on July 29, 1851; interment in Forest Hills Cemetery, Roxbury, Mass.
