| Info | The Honourable Colin Fagan was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development in January 2012.
Previously Mr. Fagan had spent most of his professional life at the Social Development Commission (SDC) where he held the following positions:
Office Manager/National Inventory Co-ordinator
National Co-ordinator for Pre-Vocational Training
Technical Training Manager
National Co-ordinator for the Family Centre
National Co-ordinator for Special Projects
He was also the Manager of the National Youth Service and a Vocational Instructor.
Apart from his career in the public sector, State Minister Fagan has played a key role in community development, especially in the municipality of Portmore, St. Catherine. He has functioned in the role of Chairman on the boards of the Port Henderson Primary School and Bridgeport Infant School. He was the President for both the Edgewater Citizens’ Association and Portmore Jaycees.
He is the Treasurer Manager for the Jamaica Welfare Co-operative Credit Union and the General Secretary at the Portmore Joint Citizens’ Association.
State Minister Fagan has a history of serving the people of Jamaica as the Opposition Spokesman on Local Government and Community Development long before he was called to serve at his current post in the Cabinet. He is the Member of Parliament for St. Catherine South Eastern and has served the citizens in his constituency in the following capacities:
Parish Councillor and Deputy Mayor Portmore, Municipal Council
Chairman, Portmore City Council
Chairman, St. Catherine South East Constituency
For his service to Portmore, he won the Portmore Municipal Award in 2006, Jaycees of the year award for outstanding community work in 1996 and the St. Catherine Parish Council award in recognition for outstandcing service to the people of St. Catherine in 2007.
State Minister Fagan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at the West Virginia University of Technology in the US but has several other educational achievements to his credit from institutions in Israel and Korea.
Mr. Fagan is very familiar with the political landscape as he is a member of the People’s National Party’s National Executive Council and an Executive Member of the Party.
