Info | Michael Bell is a husband, father, local and international entrepreneur, publisher, arts promoter, and recognized singer/ songwriter. He grew up in Peterborough attending Kawartha Heights Public School, and then graduated from Adam Scott CVI. His father Ed Bell, now retired, was a dedicated public school teacher, working for the Peterborough Board of Education for over 35 years, and instilled a dedication to cause and a patient approach that has helped Michael weather the economic tides and hardships encountered from being both a self employed business person and social activist. Michael has worked behind the scenes fundraising and organizing in various capacities for countless causes, ranging from the Peterborough Food Bank to World Vision, Peterborough Flood Relief to OXFAM, United Way of Canada to Amnesty International.
Throughout the 90's he published a regional social/arts magazine 'The Wire", which among other things, investigated and reported on environmental and social issues affecting both the local and global community. Recently, his new company KnowAbout Peterborough, has launched 'The Green Zine" with designs to grow the magazine nationally. Though KA Peterborough is but one satellite in a global internet publishing network which he founded in 2001, known as the KnowAboutNetwork, which has 200+ internet magazines with representatives as far away as Nigeria and Australia, his commitment to local issues and business promotion has once again taken centre stage.
Michael is 47 and is married with two daughters. His partner Michelle is a psychiatric nurse at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, with 19 years service. Their daughter Jessica is a local dental hygienist, having graduated from Algonquin College with honours, and she is a recent bride, married to Peterborough Police constable Jamie MacIntyre in May of this year. Youngest daughter Bianca has finished her first year in the Vic Program at the University of Toronto studying Humanities and Political Science and is currently attending Trent University in Peterborough. She graduated secondary school with honours from Lakefield College School receiving a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award as well as receiving the coveted Lakefield Travel Scholarship which allowed her to travel abroad for the year 2007. Their "adopted" daughter Nisansala has been supported through the family's support of World Vision since she was an infant and she continues to attend school in Puttalam, Sri Lanka where she is completing grade 4 and hopes to become a teacher.
