A resident of College Township, Dr. Andrew Sicree is a Penn State alumnus, holding a Ph.D. in geochemistry and mineralogy along with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Previously, Dr. Sicree ran for State College Area School Board. In 2005, he won a primary election as a Republican candidate for the office of College Township Supervisor. Sicree served for many years as an election official in the Centre County’s 44th precinct.
Dr. Sicree and his wife, Rebecca Sicree, have nine children ages one through fifteen, all of whom were born at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. The Sicree family attends Our Lady of Victory Church in State College. Dr. Sicree is active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a counselor for the environmental science and geology merit badges; he has two sons in Troop 83 in State College.
For many years, Dr. Sicree worked on Centre County elections, helping to staff the College Township West precinct. Dr. Sicree has resided in Centre County for twenty years.
Dr. Sicree, age 46, served as a faculty member at Penn State University and as director and curator of the university’s mineral museum for thirteen years. Before coming to the State College area, he worked as a volunteer lecturer, teaching computers at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. He has also previously worked at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, the Savannah River National Lab in South Carolina, Bacharach Inc., in Pittsburgh, and Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico.
Dr. Sicree currently heads up the African Book Project: an on-going effort to send 100,000 used books to “book-poor” nations in Africa. To date, more than 20,000 books have been shipped to Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
