Info | TOWNSEND, Charles Champlain, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Allegheny (now a part of Pittsburgh), Pa., November 24, 1841; attended the common schools and Western University, Pittsburgh, Pa.; manufacturer of wire rivets and nails; served two years in the Union Army during the Civil War as a private in Company A, Ninth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserve Corps, and later as adjutant of the First Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-first Congress (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1891); was not a candidate for renomination in 1890 to the Fifty-second Congress; again engaged in manufacturing; died in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pa., on July 10, 1910; interment in Grove Cemetery.
