Info | William D. Meyering lost his right arm in WWI. He was cited for his gallantry, and became the first American to receive the Distinguished Service Cross. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre from the French Government. He married Marie Flavin in 1923. The Meyering Park at 7140 S. King Drive was named for him and opened in 1926. He was a City of Chicago Alderman and a Chief Probation officer for the Cook County Sheriff's dept.
