Proven Leadership
Profession: After leaving active duty, my wife Karen and I moved to Modesto in 1990 to raise our family and run a small business. I ran a design-build company until recalled to active duty in 2001. Karen continues to operate our realty company. Today, I still help defend our nation as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard.
Elected Office: My faith and strong sense of duty inspired me to serve as a Modesto City Councilman for six years, one of which as Vice Mayor. I chaired several city committees including Public Safety and Economic Development.
Education: In 1980, I graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Military Service: 1980 to 1989, Active Duty Army. Special Forces School; Ranger School; Flight School. 1989 to present, California Air National Guard, 129th Air Rescue Wing (ARW), Helicopter Pilot, Civil Engineer and Command Post Officer.
Mobilized to Active Duty in 2001-2002 as Officer in Charge of the 129th ARW Command Post at Moffett Federal Air Field to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. Volunteered for Active Duty in 2004 as Team Leader in development of a Full Spectrum Integrated Vulnerability Assessment (FSIVA) Program for Homeland Defense.

Personal: My wife Karen and I have been married for 21 years. We have three children: Joanna (3), Kailey (5), and Bryan (19), a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. I was born in Orange, California, May 22, 1957. My interests include mountain backpacking and fishing. I attend Calvery Chapel.
