Info | Pete Henderson is a resident of Basehor and is running to be your state representative in the 38th house district. He has lived and worked in the area for many years as an educator and businessman. Pete is running because he wants to set Kansas' priorities straight and focus on education, economic growth and bringing an end to legislative priorities that waste valuable time and don't help the people of Kansas.
Life As An Educator
One of Pete's proudest accomplishments is having been a part of many young people's lives. As both a teacher and a guidance counselor, Pete knows what schools need to keep functioning and providing the highest degree of excellence. He believes that communities, individuals and businesses alike, have a strong vested interest in providing top quality education.
While teaching American History for 4 and half years in Kansas City, Pete attended night school to get his master's degree in guidance and counseling. He then worked as guidance counselor for another 4 and a half years, also in Kansas City. During this time, part of his job was to interface with state agencies to make sure his classrooms were offering the most effective curricula, and to interface directly with high risk students.
Through these experiences Pete learned a great deal about our education system, and why it needs to be fully funded to be effective. Working with at-risk youth brought him an appreciation for the struggles many of the young students faced, both academically and at home. Giving these students the best chance of success was always a top priority for Pete, and that meant keeping them involved with school and providing them with outlets for their interests. Pete knows that chronically underfunding schools will lead to community deterioration. These children are the future of our state and nation, and Pete will fight for education to create the strongest America possible.
Life In The Insurance Business
Pete sold auto and home insurance until his retirement. His experiences in the field showed him, firsthand, the challenges families face in the state. The value of working together was the key lesson Pete learned from this experience in industry.
In government, as well as the insurance industry, the goal is to take challenges and turn them into opportunities. Growth takes investment and only through investment can we improve the state of our economy. Pete believes that investment in the people of Kansas is how we will overcome these challenging economic times.
