Info | O’BRIEN, William James, a Representative from Maryland; born in Baltimore, Md., May 28, 1836; attended the common schools and pursued classical studies in the old St. Mary’s College, Baltimore; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1858 and commenced practice in Baltimore; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1877); was not a candidate for renomination in 1876; resumed the practice of law in Baltimore; appointed in 1901 and elected in 1903 judge of the orphans’ court of Baltimore and served in that capacity until his death in Baltimore, Md., November 13, 1905; interment in Bonnie Brae Cemetery.
