Description | To fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Don Young
Election conducted via Ranked Choice Voting (voters will rank the 4 candidates from 1st to 5th choice, with a write-in option on the ballot)
Al Gross finished 3rd in the June primary but he dropped out. The state of Alaska ruled that this withdrawal happened too late to elevate the 5th place finisher (Sweeney) into this election.
The Division of Elections held an online presentation on its Facebook page at 4pm (8pm Eastern) on 8/31 to announce the result of the RCV. Begich having placed third and being eliminated, his voters gave Palin 50%, Peltola 29%, and 21% left the RCV blank. |
