Based on the list of controversies on Barnes' wikipedia page, it looks like the Dems have given Ron Johnson a fighting chance

Weren't a bunch of Republicans saying there was no need because it was "settled law"? Sounds like a repeat of Roe.

Local Mandela Barnes ads in my market are laying the “I’m not for abolishing the police!” angle on thick. He’s definitely in it to win it. I still think the wind is at Ron Johnson’s back (more due to the fact that he’s a Republican incumbent in a Democratic president’s midterm than any other obvious reasons), but I feel more optimistic about Barnes’ chances than I would have six months ago.

I'm not trusting polls showing Barnes ahead until he gets into at least the upper single digits. Trumpism still has greater appeal in the rust belt than it does in the nation at-large, and Wisconsin in particular has demonstrated a sort of nihilist bent in the previous decade.

Johnson wins a third term.
Wisconsin Democrats need to find their own John Fetterman.
