Description

BBC Constituency Profile:

Enfield North is the northernmost constituency in London, bounded by the M25 to the north, the Lee Valley reservoirs to the east and adjoining the open countryside of Enfield Chase. It includes large Turkish, Afro-Caribbean, Indian, Bangladeshi, Cypriot and Italian communities and a significant amount of social housing.

More than one in 10 of the population is a lone parent - the seven highest proportion of any constituency in England and Wales, according to ONS 2011 Census figures. The seat is partly industrial, especially around the Great Cambridge Road. Enfield Business Centre, within the constituency, supports local business activity. More than one in 10 works in education; one in six works in retail.

The seat was Conservative from 1979 until 1997, when Labour's Joan Ryan won it. In 2010, Conservative Nick de Bois took it back with 42.3% of the votes; Labour got 38.5%, Liberal Democrats 12.2% and BNP 2.8%.
