Fillon has the required number of mayoral signatures (500 at least) to run, according to the constitutional council. Other updates will arriveon March 3rd, March 7th, March 10th, March 14th and March 18th. (The last day to send them to the Consitutional council will be March 17th. [Link]

The UDI (Union of Democrats and Independents) has suspended its endorsement of Fillon, and will meet next week to take a "collective decision." [Link]

Whoa - a poll with Macron - Mélenchon as 1-2.

Macron and Le Pen are still the frontrunners, but a four-way race is slowly emerging. The inevitability of Macron-Le Pen may have given some French voters on the left the belief that they could vote for someone more similar to their views in the first round and then vote for Macron in the runoff. That's what happened in '02, when everyone thought it was Chirac-Jospin and enough left-wing voters peeled away from Jospin and voted for other candidates, giving the second spot to JMLP.

The only thing that frightens me about this election is that if LaPen and Macron advance to the runoff then many voters will stay home which may help LaPen, especially Melenchon voters

Melenchon voters have been talking up how they are going to abstain in a Le Pen-Macron scenario. Runoff is going to be heavily influenced by who DOESN'T vote.

Would be fascinating to see what would happen in a Macron-Melenchon runoff. Seems like Le Pen voters may prefer Melenchon (one poll showed by about a 60-40 margin), while Fillon voters probably would lean towards Macron (over 90% of Sarkozy voters in the first round would vote for Macron) though there would be heavy abstentions.

Also, interesting to note that Le Pen voters prefer Melenchon over Fillon in the couple of runoff polls I've seen.

Still 85%+ chance that it's Le Pen-Macron. Fillon and Melenchon seemed to increase pretty significantly, but now are getting fairly consistent numbers during the past week. Something would have to change by Sunday for one of them to end up in the runoff.

Also, in the poll I saw, it's a 2-1 split of Sarkozy first round voters for Macron over Le Pen. Likewise, it's a 2-1 split for Hollande first round voters with Fillon over Le Pen.

With numbers like that, Le Pen's ceiling is 45% on an amazing day. If she makes it to the runoff, my guess is she wouldn't go lower than 35%, but no higher than 42%.

Melenchon has been endorsed by Pamela Anderson, Mark Ruffalo, and Danny Glover. Yep.
