DescriptionDuring the 1999 Mayoral election, the voters of Baltimore City approved a measure (78-22%) that would move the election for the Office of Mayor of Baltimore City from 2003 to 2004, making the term begining in 2000 a one time 5-year term. Every ensuing term following will return to 4 years.

The measure was adopted to reduce the cost of the electoral process and increase voter turnout for the mayoral race by coinciding with the Presidential election.
