| Description | The race to replace Minshall turned into a three-way battle. The independent was Dennis Kucinich, a 27-year old Cleveland city councilman who had endorsed the Republican for Cleveland Mayor in the previous race. He chose to run as an Independent after a nasty spat with local Democratic leaders.
