BrentinCO: There is not a governable GOP majority. I suspect we will have a Speaker, but more in a caretaker role. Someone that is Republican with support of enough Democrats.
I hope so, but I don't see the handful of GOP members doing that anytime soon. Maybe by next spring...

When the GOP gives up on trying to elect a Speaker themselves, I think Biden district Republicans will work with Democrats. The alternative would be shutting down the government for over a year.

I want Jordan to win because that's the surest path for him to finally be excommunicated from the qult and thus public relevance

the fact that none of these Republican conference votes have 217 votes total should tell you how little room they have to spare

BrentinCO:
Prediction. Jordan will NOT be Speaker.
I'm taking this back. Jordan seems to have satisfied most of his opposition or at least enough. McCaul, Wagner, and Rogers all will vote for him now. Republicans seem to at least understand they need to come back together given what the world and our country are facing.
Bacon and Gimenez are probably the hold outs and the only votes against him.
There will be a floor vote tomorrow and he will be elected narrowly if not on the first vote on a vote there after.

Can we just skip to electing a GOP moderate with Dem support in exchange for the original spending targets agreed to by McCarthy, a vote on support for Ukraine and Israel and no motion to vacate based on a single member?

I think it should be a rule that after a certain amount of votes the person with the most votes wins no matter if it's not over 50%

Pretty much. It's a relative thing to the rest of the caucus.

Is it too late to resurrect Henry Clay and make him Speaker again?

No matter who the GOP puts up, it will never end in unity. Jordan might as well step aside now.
