| Description | Marxist-Leninist party begun as the Popular Democratic Movement (MPD) long led by oft-time presidential candidate Jaime Hurtado (assassinated on February 17, 1999).
After it emerged that the MPD was a front for Communist parties in Ecuador, 'Correist' elements (allies of president Rafael Correa) broke off relations and effected the party's dissolution in July 2014. Party swiftly changed names, direction and leadership on September 27, 2014.
Party has been led by Geovanni Atarihuana [Partido Unidad Popular (UP)]. |
