Description | Right-wing, Estonian nationalist party established by dissident members of the Estonian National Independence Party (ERSP) on August 29, 1993. Party began as the Estonian Future Party on September 20, 1993 (Tuleviku Eesti Erakond, TEE), renaming itself in 1999 after internal battles arose in December 1998, forcing a split. Continued internal turmoil forced leaders to seek unity through a merger agreement with a like-minded party, resulting in a union with the Republican Party (Vabariiklik Partei, VP) on January 12, 2012. Party is a proponent of Estonian neutrality between 'East and West' and Estonian self-sufficiency free of aid from the West or organizations like the IMF. Party also supports the concept of Greater Estonia, which considers areas where Estonian peoples predominate in lands occupied by neighbors (such as Setomaa, a region half placed in Russia), to be part of Estonia. Party has been led by journalist Sven Kivisildnik since April 18, 2015 [Eesti Iseseisvuspartei (EIP)]. |
