Description | Communist/socialist micro-party with an established presence in the canton of Basel-Stadt. Party began as the Basel-Stadt section of the Swiss Labor Party (PdA), until a leadership coup and a descent into far-left militancy brought about its expulsion from parent PdA in 1988. The expelled faction at first formed itself as "PdA – founded in 1944" or "PDA 1944"(PdA – gegründet 1944), settling on "PdA Basel" in 2014. The Swiss Labor Party (PdA) recreated a Basel section in 2019, calling it the “Party of Labor of Switzerland Basel Section.” The new Basel branch became an immediate center-left rival of renegade PdA Basel. PdA Basel calls for antagonism towards the western powers, close relations with the People's Republic of China, and rejects “unrestricted, mass immigration from poor countries” considering such immigration as an effort by these countries to slough off their duties to the poor [Partei der Arbeit Basel (PdA Basel)]. |
