Description | "The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is now engulfed in red.
Republicans on Nov. 8 took control of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, garnering all nine seats on the dais.
Democrats carried the majority on the board for the last four years, holding five seats of the nine on the dais.
Leading the way for the Republicans at the end of election night was Chairman Scott York, who won a fourth term as chairman, beating out Democrat Tom Bellanca, a political campaigning veteran, 31,776 votes to 17,445 votes, or 64 percent to 35 percent.
“I’m extremely happy that I was able to win my fourth term as chairman of the Board of Supervisors and happy that the Republicans had a very successful night tonight. As I said to them at the …. victory party, today we celebrate, but tomorrow we’ve got to begin to govern and we’ve got to do it in a smart way and remember we serve the citizens of Loudoun County,” York said.
In April, York said he was returning to the Republican Party after serving two terms as an independent candidate. He was first elected chairman in 1999 as a Republican. He ran on a platform of changing Loudoun’s economic tide." |
