Description | Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will support Rick Perry for president in 2012, if he wins the Republican nomination.
But Hutchison, whom Perry defeated by a thumping margin in a 2010 gubernatorial nomination fight, sounds less enthused about Perry as a GOP primary candidate.
“Well let me say that, of course, if he’s the Republican nominee, I’m going to support the Republican nominee,” she said on MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown.”
“I’m looking for the candidate that has had real business experience. I am looking for Gov. Perry’s opinions on federal issues. I don’t know what they are, because he’s been critical of the federal government, but I don’t know what his positions would be,” Hutchison said.
She continued: “I do think, from my experience with the Senate, we need more people in the arena who have had real business experience, who have lived with the overregulation and overtaxation of our businesses.”
MSNBC’s Chuck Todd pointed out that only three candidates – Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman and Herman Cain – would seem to meet that threshold.
“I think those three are good,” Hutchison said, also mentioning Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty as solid candidates. |
