Hafer May Switch Parties (to Democrats)

Description | Republican State Treasurer Barbara Hafer said Monday that she is considering switching her party registration to Democrat.
"It's an option," Hafer said. She added that a party change is not imminent, and she remains undecided about running in 2006 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Rick Santorum of Penn Hills.
Today, Hafer will endorse Democrat Dan Onorato in the Allegheny County chief executive race over GOP incumbent and former ally Jim Roddey.
A year ago, Hafer stunned many Republicans by announcing her support for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ed Rendell, who defeated Republican state Attorney General Mike Fisher of Upper St. Clair in the November 2002 election.
